The Polyclinic’s pulmonary function laboratory provides comprehensive lung testing for adults and school age children using a variety of state-of-the-art tools and techniques.  These tests assist physicians in diagnosing and monitoring respiratory disease and other conditions that can hinder a patient’s ability to breathe.  We offer:

• Spirometry
• Bronchospasm evaluation
• Lung volume measurement
• Airway resistance
• Diffusion capacity
• Methacholine bronchial provocation
• Six-minute walk evaluation
• Arterial blood gas sampling

A patient may be referred to the pulmonary function laboratory for evaluation of baseline lung function measurement, detection of suspected pulmonary disease, assessment of a known lung disease and any progression, surveillance of occupational related disease, monitoring of effects of therapy, and pre-operative evaluation.  The pulmonary division provides test interpretation and consultation with the referring physician as needed.
