If you are frustrated from dealing with troubled sleep, you are not alone.  Approximately 70 million people in the United States are affected by a sleep problem.  Lack of sleep affects more than just optimum performance.  Sleep disorders, such as sleep apnea, can actually lead to serious health problems.  Chronic conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, heart disease and obesity are often associated with sleep disorders.  Fortunately, scientific advancements have led to very effective treatments of many sleep disorders.

The Polyclinic Sleep Center’s American Board of Sleep Medicine certified specialists offer consultations and diagnostic evaluations for patients suspected of having sleep disorders.  Patients can develop a variety of sleep problems that hinder restful nights.  Some patients experience periodic limb movements of sleep or PLMS (repeated jerking of the limbs, usually the legs during sleep) or Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS).  Other problems evaluated at the sleep center include sleep walking, night terrors, narcolepsy, agitations and/or confused states during sleep (REM behavior disorder) and problems associated with changing shift work or difficulties adjusting to a ‘normal’ day/night schedule.  Relevant symptoms would be:

  • Loud, frequent snoring
  • Frequent pauses in breathing during sleep
  • Gasping, snorting or choking during sleep
  • Not feeling refreshed after waking and sleepy during the day, no matter how much time is spent in bed
  • Waking up with shortness of breath, chest pains, headaches, nasal congestion, or a dry throat.

The Polyclinic Sleep Center offers consultations and diagnostic evaluations for patients suspected of having sleep disorders.  Our physician, David Chang MD works closely with each patient to evaluate lifestyle and sleep patterns with the goal of developing an effective and thorough treatment plan.
