The Polyclinic’s Dr. Kaj Johansen named Chief of Vascular Surgery at Swedish

Dr. JohansenKaj Johansen, MD, PhD of The Polyclinic Vascular Surgery has been elected to a two-year term as Chief of Vascular Surgery at Swedish Medical Center.

Dr. Johansen, a nationally-known vascular specialist and surgical educator, is widely recognized throughout the Pacific Northwest not only for his technical skills, but also for the consultative assistance he provides surgical colleagues in remote and rural areas.  With Polyclinic vascular colleague Jim Watson, MD he has recently begun regular webinar vascular conferences for physicians distant from Seattle.

Dr. Johansen received his medical degree from the University of Washington in 1970 and completed his surgery training and a PhD in physiology/pharmacology at the University of California San Diego in 1978.  He is a clinical professor of surgery at the University of Washington School of Medicine.

Dr. Johansen joined The Polyclinic in 2008.  He has been board certified in both general and vascular surgery and provides care across the entire vascular surgical spectrum, with a recent emphasis on thoracic outlet syndrome and gait salvage surgery.
