The Polyclinic Lipid Clinic provides diagnosis and treatment for patients with lipid or cholesterol disorders. After identifying patients at high risk for heart attacks and strokes, our staff develops individualized care plans to help patients reach their goals quickly and safely.
Some patients come to us with known cholesterol abnormalities, and others come to the Lipid Clinic simply knowing that they have a family history of heart attacks, strokes or other systemic vascular disease and understand the importance of being pro-active. Whatever the reason, it’s our goal to come up with a tailored prevention and treatment plan. Patients are often referred by their doctor due to the need for a complicated medication regimen, as well as coaching with behavior and lifestyle changes. Some of the areas in which we work with patients include:
- Nutrition recommendations
- Weight management
- Physical activity
- Smoking cessation
- Stress management
- Referral to specialists in diabetes management, sleep medicine, physical therapy or nutritionists as appropriate for overall cardiovascular risk reduction.
What is the definition of “high risk?”
Patients at high risk are those who have already had heart attacks, strokes, or peripheral vascular disease, and patients who have conditions that put them at high risk for these events, such as diabetes, metabolic syndrome, and chronic kidney disease. Other patients may have multiple risk factors that in combination put them at high risk for cardiovascular diseases.
