Special Interests and Inspiration
“I was a high school science teacher in southern Texas before I decided to go into medicine. I became frustrated with all of the things that impacted the kids’ abilities to learn that were outside my influence as a teacher: nutrition, poor sleep, pregnancy, and sexuality. I found that I needed a smaller classroom with a more favorable teacher-to-student ratio.”
“Women’s health interests me for many reasons. I enjoy the one-on-one connection I have with my patients and feel I can make a positive impact in their lives. I also enjoy the fascinating intersection between personal, cultural, political and social justice issues. I am humbled by the stories my patients share and it’s rewarding for me to advocate for my patients and for the medical profession locally and in Olympia.”
“I strive to empower women to make informed decisions about their reproductive and gynecologic health. I love working with a patient to sift through all of the information out there and use evidence-based medicine to help her craft a plan that fits with her goals and priorities and her particular medical situation.”
Dr. Norland is an avid runner and cyclist who enjoys competing in triathalons and cyclocross events. She also spends her free time cooking, gardening, foraging and traveling. One of her particular passions is being an advocate for global health and social justice issues.
